Treatment Options for Colloid Cysts

Observation

Regular scans are important to check whether the cyst is growing.

Neuroendoscopic Removal

A thin endoscope is introduced through a small burr hole into the lateral ventricle, allowing direct visualisation and removal of the cyst. This minimally invasive approach is associated with high cure rates, short hospital stays, and rapid recovery.

Microsurgical Craniotomy

For some colloid cysts, a craniotomy is used. This involves a slightly larger opening in the skull, allowing the surgeon to reach and remove the cyst directly. This approach is safe and highly effective, with high rates of complete cyst removal and a low chance of the cyst returning.

Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt
